Urban Hiking
Privacy policy
Draft, not yet in force
What Urban Hiking keeps on your iPhone, what it sends to plan a route, who else handles it, and how to delete it.
Who is responsible
ZINFER TECHNOLOGIES, S.L. (“Zinfer”), Calle Magdalena Díaz 22, 8.º B, 28035 Madrid, Spain, NIF B05776141, publishes Urban Hiking and is responsible for the data it processes. Write to info@zinfertech.com for anything about your data.
No account
Urban Hiking has no sign-in and does not ask for your name or email. The first time you plan a route, it creates an anonymous identifier, kept in your iPhone’s keychain, so the service can tell one request from another and limit its use.
What stays on your iPhone
The routes you save, your favourites, your history, your preferences and the track of each walk. They are stored on the device only and never leave it.
Your location
Urban Hiking asks for your location only while you use it. During a walk it keeps updating it, even with the screen locked, to draw your route; when the walk ends, it stops. The exact track stays on your iPhone.
What is sent to plan a route
When you plan a route, the app sends our service the distance, duration, pace, type of route, interests and preferences you chose, the conditions you write, and an approximate area rounded to about one kilometre — never your exact position or the exact start and end points.
To write the route, our service uses:
- Supabase, in Ireland (European Union), which runs the service and the anonymous identifier.
- OpenAI, in the United States, which writes the route from that request. It does not receive your exact location.
- Geoapify and OpenStreetMap, which our server asks for places in that area.
Kept on the service: completed routes for 30 days, failed or expired attempts for 7 days, and the anonymous identifier until 90 days without use.
Maps and photos
Searching for a place and drawing the walking route use Apple Maps, which receives the points involved under Apple’s own privacy policy. The photos of places come from Wikimedia Commons, which your iPhone asks for directly.
What we do not do
No analytics, no advertising, no tracking across apps, and we never sell your data.
Why, and on what legal basis
To plan the routes you ask for and to let you walk them: providing the app you chose to use. The limits on use and the short retention on the service rest on our legitimate interest in keeping it working and affordable.
Transfers outside the European Union
OpenAI is in the United States. The transfer is covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Deleting your data
In the app, go to Profile and then “Tus datos” (your data):
- “Borrar datos de este iPhone” deletes your routes, favourites, history, draft, preferences and caches. It works offline and keeps the anonymous identifier.
- “Eliminar datos y cuenta” also deletes the anonymous identifier and what the service kept for it.
Deleting the app also deletes what it stored on your iPhone.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its use, and to receive it in a portable format. Write to info@zinfertech.com; we answer within one month. You can also complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD), at www.aepd.es.
This text is also available in Spanish. If the two versions differ, the Spanish one prevails.
